Elizabeth Olsen confirms role in Spike Lee's Oldboy Remake
Indie darling Elizabeth Olsen, who became more than just the little sister of famous twins at Sundance 2011 with a haunting performance in Martha Marcy May Marlene, has confirmed her long-rumored role in Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake. “I start filming Old Boy in a month,” she confided to Paste, “although it’s already been a process of several months, with rewrites and chatting about the character.”
“The original was 10 years ago,” the actress said, “and so a lot had to change story-wise. And then we’re making an American story, which ultimately will turn out to be very diferent from the Korean story—especially since the original story was a Japanese book! There are so many different re-imaginings of the story, and it’s just fantastic to be able to play around with them. I’m excited.”
Park Chan-wook’s original film won the Grand Prix at the 2004 Cannes Film Festival, and is a cult favorite. The Lee remake also stars Josh Brolin and Samuel L. Jackson, among others.
